New Volleyball Biathlon Tournament Scheduled For December 5th 2009

Eustis, FL (PRWEB) November 14, 2009 -- Today, the Florida Region of USA Volleyball is pleased to announce the first ever multi-surface volleyball tournament. The two surfaces that will be used are sand and wood. This will be a great day to show off indoor and beach volleyball skills. Bring sunscreen, swim suits, knee pads, socks, volleyball shoes and whatever else is needed to spike your way into first place. Proceeds from the Volleyball Biathlon will benefit the Florida Region High Performance All-Star program.

The Volleyball Biathlon is a co-ed event and will include both recreational and competitive playing divisions for adult players. The tournament will take place on Saturday December 5th, 2009 in Orlando at the Orlando Sports Center. Team check-in will begin at 8:30am and play will begin at 9:30am. Teams will participate in pool play during the morning matches and then a single elimination playoff in the afternoon. Here’s the kicker, the playoff surface will be determined from a random draw, how exciting! The event can accommodate between 40-50 teams. Six indoor nets will be set up as well as six sand courts at the Orlando Sports Center. Prizes will be presented to the winners in each division. It will be an exciting, challenging event that will include raffles and give a ways, along with music and fun all day long.

All teams are encouraged to register in advance to confirm a spot in the event. Teams in the competitive division will consist of 4 players per team and are required to have 1 female on the court during play. The team fee for competitive teams will be $100. Teams in the recreational division will consist of 6 players per team and are required to have 2 females on the court during play. The team fee for recreational teams will be $150. Interested teams can register online at the Florida Region of USA Volleyball website: www.FloridaVolleyball.org.

Steve Bishop, Executive Director/President of the Florida Region of USA Volleyball commented, “The biathlon volleyball tournament has never been done before and I’m excited to kick-off the idea in the Florida Region. There are so many beach volleyball enthusiasts as well as indoor players, we anticipate having a great turnout. I would encourage both experienced and inexperienced players to come out and enjoy a day of variety-volleyball. See you on the beach…and on the wooden courts.” Yvonne Devlin, President of Orlando Volleyball Academy added, “Orlando Volleyball and Orlando Sports Center is proud to be a part of this fundraiser to give kids the opportunity to play on our region High performance Teams.”
